Welcome to Premier
Livestock Marketing Services Section

Having decided to sell through PLMS, all details of the stock you have to offer
will be collated and placed on a National Catalogue which is faxed to
potential customers throughout the PLMS network of abattoirs.
To sell livestock through the PLMS network initial contact should be made through
the office at Frome or via the e-mail facility on this site. Your
nearest field officer will then visit your farm to assess
and advise on the stock you have to offer.
He will also give you guidance as to stock values prevailing
at the time of the visit.
At The Farm
Vendors are
asked to provide suitable handling facilities when asking
Field officers to inspect stock and a weigh scale is
always advantageous. Vendors are responsible for ensuring
stock is correctly tagged and that all cattle are accompanied
by the correct documentation when leaving the premises. All
notification of any withdrawal periods should be made
in writing to the auctioneer to ensure that stock is
not offered for sale prematurely. |

At
The Abattoir
Once
your stock has been slaughtered, the carcass will be classified
at the abattoir and the weights and grades will be faxed
to the auctioneers, again within 24 hours. The auctioneer
will in turn fax or post the returns to the vendor as soon
as possible.
All weights and grade sheets will be available to the vendor
and normally posted to the vendor either prior to or with the
payment.
Classification and
Weight Bands
When
sheep and cattle are slaughtered, they are classified for
conformation and fatness which forms the basis for carcass
payment. Conformation
classes range from E (BEST) to P (WORST) on the Europ Grid
and fatness from 1 (LEANEST) to 5 (FATTEST). Bid
price will be based on variable adjustments on the grid,
details of which are available from your Field Officer
at the time of sale. He can also give you details
of current weight bands.
PLMS sells mainly to abattoirs which employ the MLC to classify
their stock or use MAFF approved classifiers. You are therefore
assured of receiving the correct weights and grades.
PLMS Field Officers are constantly monitoring dressing specifications
currently used by our regular abattoirs, and are regularly
in touch with the operator, and make periodic visits to the
plants and inspect the carcasses and discuss current classification
and grading.
Payment and Charges
PLMS pays
at 10 days.
PREMIER LIVESTOCK
MARKETING SERVICES pays its vendors 10 days from the
date of slaughter except in exceptional circumstances of
holiday periods (i.e. Easter, Christmas and New Year.) Payment
to vendors is guaranteed by PLMS backed by Premier
Livestock Auctions and associates. |
